I 2021 var Høgskolen i Molde, Vitenskapelig høgskole i logistikk arrangør av Fjordkonferansen. Konferansen ble avholdt digitalt over to dager, den 16. og 17. juni 2021. Thomas Hylland Eriksen og Jørgen Randers var keynote speakers. Plenumssesjonene ble streamet fra kantina på HiMolde, med et lite publikum til stede.
Tema: Bærekraft
Begrepet bærekraftig utvikling ble lansert av Brundtlandkommisjonen i sin rapport Vår felles fremtid i 1987. Der defineres bærekraft i et generasjonsperspektiv, som gjør det utfordrende i en verden der politikeres tidshorisont er begrenset av valgperioden, og økonomer neddiskonterer fremtiden ut fra antakelser om økonomiske aktørers tidspreferanser. Hvordan kan vi vite hva som er bærekraftig i dag, når det er fremtidens generasjoner som skal være de endelige dommerne? Vi oppdager stadig nye bevis på at praksis vi lenge har oppfattet som uproblematisk, likevel viser seg å ha utilsiktede konsekvenser vi finner uakseptable. Et eksempel på dette kan være hvordan den berømte «plasthvalen» satte vårt forhold til plast i et nytt lys. Plast var tidligere oppfattet som et relativt harmløst forsøplingsproblem, ikke en vesentlig trussel mot økosystemer eller biologisk mangfold. Denne usikkerheten gjør bærekraft til et diffust og tøyelig begrep.
FN vedtok i 2015 17 bærekraftige utviklingsmål med 169 tilknyttede delmål, som skal ligge til grunn for all deres virksomhet i årene frem til 2030. Disse målene innebærer en konkretisering av de utfordringene vår generasjon må løse på vegne av våre etterkommere. Akademia er forventet å påta seg et særlig ansvar for å produsere ny kunnskap som må til for at bærekraftsmålene skal gjøres oppnåelige.
Som tema for Fjordkonferansen 2021 kan bærekraft settes under lupen fra forskjellige vinkler:
- Det problematiske bærekraftsbegrepet
- Bærekraftsmålene – er prioriteringene riktige?
- Kunnskapsbehov for å nå FNs bærekraftsmål med tilhørende delmål
- Evaluering av innsatsen som gjøres for å nå bærekraftsmålene
- Fokus på enkelte delmål:
- Bærekraftig urbanisering
- Bærekraftig helsepolitikk og -systemer, herunder forebyggende tiltak
- Bærekraftig utdanning og formidling av bærekraft i utdanningene
- Bærekraftig energiforbruk
- Bærekraftig industri og sirkulærøkonomi
- Bærekraftig transport og logistikk
- Bærekraft og delingsøkonomi
- Bærekraft og migrasjon
- Bærekraft og naturressursforvaltning
- Synergier og konflikter mellom de enkelte bærekraftsmålene
Listen er ikke uttømmende. Mottatte sammendrag vil bli vurdert mot en romslig tolkning av temaet, og etter beste evne organisert tematisk med tanke på strukturen på konferansen og antologien.

The theme for the Fjord Conference 2021 is Sustainability. The concept of sustainable development was launched by the Brundtland Commission in its report Our Common Future in 1987. It defines sustainability in a generational perspective, which makes it challenging in a world where politicians» time horizon is limited by the election period, and economists discount the future based on assumptions about economic actors» time preferences. How can we know what is sustainable today, when future generations will be the final judges? We are constantly discovering new evidence that practices we have long perceived as unproblematic, nevertheless turn out to have unintended consequences we find unacceptable. An example of this could be how the famous «plastic whale» put our relationship with plastic in a new light. Plastic was previously perceived as a relatively harmless littering problem, not a significant threat to ecosystems or biodiversity. This uncertainty makes sustainability a vague and flexible concept.
In 2015, the UN adopted 17 sustainable development goals with 169 associated sub-goals, which will form the basis for all their activities in the years up to 2030. These goals entail a concretization of the challenges our generation must solve on behalf of our descendants. Akademia is expected to take on a special responsibility for producing new knowledge that is necessary for the sustainability goals to be achieved.

- The problematic concept of sustainability
- Sustainability goals – are the priorities right?
- Knowledge needs to achieve the UN’s sustainability goals with associated sub-goals
- Evaluation of the efforts made to achieve the sustainability goals
- Focus on some sub-goals:
- Sustainable urbanization
- Sustainable health policies and systems, including preventive measures
- Sustainable education and dissemination of sustainability in the educations
- Sustainable energy consumption
- Sustainable industry and circular economy
- Sustainable transport and logistics
- Sustainability and sharing economy
- Sustainability and migration
- Sustainability and natural resource management
- Synergies and conflicts between the individual sustainability goals
The list is not exhaustive. Received summaries will be assessed against a broad interpretation of the topic, and to the best of our ability organized thematically with a view to the structure of the conference and the anthology.
The deadline for submitting abstracts (up to 250 words) is Monday 15 March 2021. The deadline for submitting a completed manuscript is Saturday 1 May. Please submit abstracts and manuscripts to fjordantologien@himolde.no.
